Attracting more investment than ever before, the Green Deal will be the leading home energy enhancement agenda of modern times. In a world of rising costs and market instability, we really cannot afford to be wasteful with energy.
UK homes are amongst the most inefficient in Europe, with England alone holding up to 4.1 million households living in fuel poverty and 8 million solid wall homes that have no affordable solution to insulate. The Green Deal will change that.
The key is that people are well advised so that they understand everything their home needs. It will generate a market where there is a lot more competition than present, which will help to bring down prices, thus supporting the poorest and most vulnerable households as well as properties that are difficult to improve.
There are still millions of homes with lofts and cavity walls to insulate, and they are key measures for inclusion in green deal packages in conjunction with other work. The Green deal will generate new demand for all types of insulation and increase jobs in the insulation market to 65,000 by 2015.
The Green Deal presents an enormous opportunity to businesses, and to people managing their energy bills. It puts the consumer in control; with private firms, utility firms, local councils, charities and nationwide brands competing to provide the best offers on price, quality and service. Energy companies, local authorities, and local businesses will become providers and installers of green deals.
Now is an exciting time in the world of energy efficiency, being on the brink of a revolution to make homes across the country cheaper to run, cosier to live in, and fit for the future.
